where to find vintage-style halloween decor

It may not be “officially” Halloween season yet, but for dedicated ghouls, the hunt for Halloween decorations is officially on. Vintage Halloween decor items like blowmolds and paper decorations are highly sought after by collectors. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of the hunt, but if you want to fill your home with more affordable and less delicate decor, you’re in luck! There has been an awesome resurgence in vintage Halloween motifs and styles (including some original companies!), making reproduction pieces available to all.

Founded in 1900, the Beistle Company launched over 1,000 Halloween products starting in the 1920s. From banners and centerpieces to “fortune-telling games,” these inexpensive decorations helped popularize the trend of decorating for our favorite spooky holiday. Today, you can purchase licensed reproductions of their iconic paper decorations from Vintage Beistle. Creepy Company also produces licensed merchandise with Beistle designs like socks, sweaters, and enamel pins.

Traditions has an amazing selection of Halloween pieces year-round, specializing in collectibles and designs by a number of artists who draw inspiration from vintage Halloween decor. Definitely a go-to for anyone who wants something unique. I am personally a huge fan of Johanna Parker – in addition to her Bethany Lowe designs with Traditions, she licenses her designs through her JPD Partners in Craft program, which means you can find makers on Etsy and across the internet creating adorable things with her designs. I was lucky enough to win a wreath last season from one of those partners, White Christmas Wreaths.

Rhode Montijo is perhaps best known in the Halloween scene for his amazing Halloween flag, but he also has some adorable vintage-inspired Halloween illustrations as tin wall hangings, pins, t-shirts, and more.

Another amazing artist who brings vintage-style Halloween illustrations to life is the fabulous Stephanie Buscema. Now selling apparel and accessories through her brand Kitschy Witch Clothing, Stephanie is an illustrator I’ve been following for a long time and I love having new opportunities to bring home her art!

If you’re more on the punky/rockabilly/horror side of Halloween, you’ll find some great pieces from Sourpuss. They carry a variety of popular alternative/retro brands as well as their house brand, and they have a lot of vintage-inspired horror-flavored housewares and apparel year round.

Finally, don’t forget about scoping out the usual haunts! Vintage Halloween has made its way back to the shelves of major retailers in a big way in recent years, from modern blowmolds at Michaels to Halloween-themed Shiny Brite ornaments popping up at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx. Vintage is hip again, and you can find a lot of very retro and folk art-inspired pieces at the big spots.

Where do you shop for your vintage-inspired Halloween pieces? Do you have some cool true vintage pieces or are you a repro gal like me?
