I definitely can be a creature of habit when it comes to products that I like, so I often feel a little silly trying to pull together a monthly favorites post. But I have been trying some new things lately, and I thought it would be fun to do a little casual chit-chat post about beauty products (hair, makeup, and otherwise) that I’ve been experimenting with or just really enjoying lately. So welcome to What’s On My Vanity, an exciting new series that will update on a strict “whenever I feel like it” schedule.
Kate Spade: Truly Daring
I received this perfume for Christmas after being without a fragrance for a long time, and I’m still super in love with it. I’m have a sensitive sense of smell, and I can be really picky about scents. I don’t like things to be overly sweet smelling, but I’m not a fan of musky perfumes either. According to Ulta, Truly Daring “mimics the freshness and purity of the pink peony, and as the fragrance unfolds, it reveals deeper and more mysterious nuances hidden in the flower’s petals.” I really love that the scent is very floral and feminine, but it’s also a very clean scent. The freshness is definitely there, and the flowery scent doesn’t go too powdery or too saccharine. Plus, it’s pink, and it’s my signature brand~, so.
Back in December, I included Lemonhead.LA’s fabulous glitter pastes in my Glamazon Gift Guide. I’ll never say blogging never got me anywhere in life, because my bestie took inspiration from the post to order me one for Christmas! I promptly smeared a bit on my face, then jumped online to order two more (oops). Their promise of “no mess glitter for adults” holds true. It’s really the perfect option for getting sparkly as fuck with as little effort as possible. Beautiful glitter blends are suspended in a clear paste. Just dab some onto your hair or skin with a brush or a finger, let dry, and you’re good to go. It doesn’t budge on your face, but it rinses off with water. I’m much more willing to leave my house now that every non-work event has become an opportunity to wear glitter.
Joico Purple Shampoo & Color Butter
Since my last visit, my salon switched over to Joico and Guy Tang MyDentity products, and my stylist gave a glowing recommendation for their new line of Joico products. As you know, I’ve been using Overtone to keep my color bright since I went purple, but I’m always up for something new. The purple shampoo smells way better than any toning shampoo I’ve ever used before, and my hair is still feeling nice and soft. I haven’t used the color butter yet, but I’ll definitely give a full update once I do.
Kat Von D Lolita
The very first “prestige” lip product I ever bought was a set of three Kat Von D lipsticks. There was a purple I think I only wore once (I wasn’t that brave yet), a red I wore occasionally, and then there was Lolita. I was distraught when my tube of Lolita went sticky and grody, and though I often thought about it, I never quite committed to buying it again. And then, Kat Von D discontinued the Studded Kiss line, and my TJ Maxx ended up with a bunch of overstock. And guess who added a lovely new tube of Lolita to her collection?
