pinup in a pack subscription box unboxing: december

Whoops! With all the holidays and the end of the year, this unboxing is a little bit late. In fact, if you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen one of the pieces contained within in action. But things are starting to get back into the regular swing of things, so here’s a look inside the December subscription box from Pinup in a Pack, a monthly subscription service for retro accessories.

In my November box review, I mentioned that I was hoping for some holiday glitz in the December box. The first thing I saw when I opened up the box, unsurprisingly, was that stunning, sparkly poinsettia. This is an absolutely gorgeous piece, and I immediately knew I would be wearing it for my family’s Christmas celebration. That said, having worn it, I think that the clip on it is way too small for a flower of this size and weight. It looked really pretty, but it was tipping forward off my head all day…

Now that I’ve been subscribed to Pinup in a Pack for more than six months, I feel like there are definitely two types of boxes. Some months there’s a single standout piece with a few supporting accessories thrown in, and some are more like a curated set. This one is the former, in my eyes, but I do also really like the scarf that came in the box. Even though it’s not roses, the red flowers with yellow motif definitely gives me some Beauty & the Beast vibes. It’s big, which is great…I feel like a lot of the scarves I get are fairly limited in use as a girl with a ginormous head. Most of them I can’t actually wear around my head and still get a decent bow on them. This one is definitely wrappable!

Unfortunately, the brooch is a little bit of a bummer. It’s pretty, but the center gem is glued on crooked. I might still wear it if the outfit calls for it, and I don’t think close inspection is likely, but it’s disappointing to get something that’s just kind of mediocre quality.

And those are my slightly belated December thoughts! Though the brooch could use some more QC, I do love the other two pieces that came in the box, and I’m planning to keep my subscription – can’t wait to see what 2018 will bring!
