The holiday season is officially here, and if my Instagram feed is anything to go by, I’m not the only one who’s feeling Very Ready for all things merry and bright.
I always joke about being best at buying Christmas presents for me, and I won’t deny that plenty of that happens during December, but I honestly really do love shopping for gifts. There’s something so immensely satisfying about picking out something you’re sure the recipient will love. Gifts are one of my “love languages,” according to highly scientific internet tests, and the only thing that I enjoy as much as giving gifts is giving advice to other people about gifts! So I’m excited to share a few themed gift guides this holiday season – hopefully this will help you figure out what to get for someone special in your life, or give you ideas to put on your Christmas list!
First up: the best ways to say “Mele Kalikimaka” to the tikiphile in your life!

There are a ton of great tiki books available right now, but Smuggler’s Cove is my pick for the “must have” gift. I have a full review of the book here, but in short, it’s hard to get much closer to a bible of tiki! The combination of history, recipes, hosting tips, and stunning photos mean there’s something for everyone in this book, whether you’re just looking to learn or actually want to up your home tiki bar game.
There are pretty much endless options for home tiki bar signs, but I think these custom signs based on the plaques found at Disney World’s Polynesian Resort add something extra special. I know I can trace my own love of all things tropical back to a wonderful stay at the Polynesian when I was growing up.
Help your tiki-loving friend step out in style! PrimitivaDiva offers a wide variety of tropical accessories for both ladies and gentlemen. I have a lovely custom Christmas piece from her, and all of her pieces are beautifully sculpted and over the top in the best way. Tiki torches, tropical birds, drink umbrellas: all play a part in these whimsical, colorful accessories. In addition to the usual hair flowers and accessories, you’ll also find awesome hat fobs.
If your tikiphile is also a big nerd (and let’s be real – a lot of us are!), it’s hard to resist the amazing Geeki Tikis! These tiki mug versions of nerdy favorites are fun as single pieces or as a set. I’m guessing a lot of ghouls out there would love the set of old-school movie monsters.
Custom cocktail napkins
For the happy host or hostess, what could be more special than their own custom cocktail napkins? Imagine how cool it would feel to serve a perfectly mixed Mai Tai with a cocktail napkin emblazoned with the name of your own tiki bar. Most of the custom napkins I found in my search were intended for weddings, but I don’t see any reason you shouldn’t be able to switch out “The Smiths” for “Cap’n Randy’s Treasure Trove.” This classic banana leaf pattern has a touch of midcentury elegance, and it’s hard to go wrong with a pineapple!
Of course, there’s one thing that no tiki lover can ever say no to – a drink! If you’re flat out of ideas, offer to pick up the tab on an excursion to your nearest tiki retreat. I’m sure that they’ll be very grateful!
