Who’s ready for a long weekend? I definitely am – I do enjoy traveling and attending conferences, but these events can be shockingly tiring. Since I’ve worked every day since Saturday, I’m looking forward to having three days all to myself. Since it’s a holiday weekend and I’ve gotten a lot of new followers recently, I thought it would be fun to do a light, fun get-to-know-you kind of post. I’m pretty open on social media, but I do have a secret or two…follow the jump to learn five things about me that you probably didn’t know before!
01 I’m emo trash for life
If you watch my Instagram Story, you may have seen me Freaking Out over a drag queen performing the seminal 00s hit, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” In late high school and early college, I went through a major scene kid phase (only on the inside…though if I had the confidence I had now, you best believe I would have been rocking those raccoon tail extensions), and TBH, I don’t know that I ever fully got out of it. There’s still no album that can top The Black Parade for melodramatic car karaoke.
02 I’ve never been abroad
This always makes me feel like such a bumpkin, but the only time I’ve gone outside the U.S. is when my family was staying on Lake Superior (in Minnesota) and drove across the border into Canada for lunch. It’s definitely one of my goals to take an international trip…any advice on places I should go?
03 I’ve been writing stories since elementary school
This one is a little bit of a twofer: did you know that in addition to this lovely blog and working full time as a marketing writer, I also write fiction? I actually have my degree in Creative Writing, and I’ve loved writing since I was just a kid! These days I don’t always have as much time or energy for my fiction as I’d like, but I’m trying to go slow and steady and get back on the horse.
04 I did a total 180 on the Haunted Mansion
As you know, I’m a huge fan of the Haunted Mansion. But this wasn’t always the case…I was actually terrified of it as a kid! I was a super wimpy kid, and I remember hiding my face during “Grim Grinning Ghosts” on a Disney singalong VHS. When we actually went to Disney World, I decided that I was ready to face my fear and go on the ride…only to have a total meltdown in the Stretching Room and need to be taken out of the attraction before actually getting on the ride, after a very long pre-FastPass wait. (Sorry, parents!!) Nowadays, I can’t get enough of these loveable spooks.
05 I’m notorious for my black thumb
I am not allowed to have plants. No matter how easy they’re supposed to be to take care of, I always manage to kill them in the end. Nowadays, I try to keep my distance from anything green and growing. Which is too bad, because I love the aesthetic of homes overflowing with beautiful plants! In my hands, all that vibrant greenery would quickly start to resemble Morticia Addams’ conservatory.
Did any of these facts surprise you? I hope at least one did! To all my American readers, have a safe & happy long weekend!
