Being bad doesn’t mean you can’t look good. This series honors the villains, antagonists, and all around bad bitches who rock their wicked style.
I’ve been of fan of Silence of the Lambs since I first saw the movie in high school; since then, I’ve read the books, watched the other films…but nothing since that film has moved me the way that NBC’s Hannibal did. Like most fans, I was dubious by the very concept, but I was blown away by what became one of my all-time favorite TV shows. One of the main reasons for that is Mads Mikkelsen’s absolutely stunning portrayal of one of literature’s great monsters, Hannibal Lecter. And as portrayed on Hannibal, Dr. Lecter is, without a doubt, a Bad Bitch.
Seriously, look at this drama queen. I know this is a promotional still, but if you’re going to tell me that Hannibal never sat at his table, artfully tablescaped with flowers and fruit and antlers and books and stuff, in his velvet jacket and rested mournfully against a skull, I’m going to call you a liar.
One of the things I love most about Hannibal’s wardrobe in the show is how bold it is. It’s always impeccable and tasteful, of course, but there’s nothing conservative about it. Like so many predators, he’s attractive and intriguing, flashy in just the right ways to draw you in.
As flashy as Hannibal’s suits tend to be, there are a lot of classic patterns here. I’ve always had a soft spot for windowpane, and Hannibal is obviously a big fan of it. Paired with colorful patterned ties and pocket squares, he’s more than a bit of a dandy.
Look at that…a patterned suitcoat with a patterned tie and ALSO a patterned shirt! This man is a fashion risktaker.
He even rocks a pale blue suit without looking even a little bit like he’s on his way to prom in the 70s! It’s probably because I’m an American goober, but I do always feel like there is something feels quintessentially European about a man with a distinct, bold sense of style. It’s something that marks Hannibal, visually, as someting different. Something unusual and intriguing. I know that I’m intrigued…
He’s even effortlessly stylish in the kitchen!
When being woken up by troublesome yet scruffily handsome FBI consultants!
And even while doing some light murdering. Anyone who’s spilled something on a favorite dress knows how important it is to protect your clothes! I could probably use one of these, honestly…
There aren’t many shows that have made an impact on my heart the way that Hannibal has. And although I don’t plan to eat the rude, I definitely can take plenty of inspiration from Hannibal’s ultra-stylish wardrobe.
