9 halloween cross stitch patterns for creepy crafters

Autumn weather always makes me want to get out my little tackle box filled with embroidery floss and start a new cross stitching project! One of my favorite ways to celebrate a holiday is by doing a themed cross stitch, so it’s no surprise I’ve done several Halloween-themed patterns. Cross stitching is a really easy craft to get started with that I highly recommend anyone try – the start-up costs are low, and all you really need is a good pattern and some patience. I got started cross stitching just buying a pattern from Etsy and jumping in, so today I’m sharing some spooky patterns that will hopefully inspire you to make something this Halloween season!

You may have seen my Beetlejuice-inspired Ouija board cross stitch from last Halloween – here’s another neat Ouija pattern from Witchy Stitcher! There are SO many awesome patterns in this shop – if you love horror movies, the occult, or spooky stuff in general, I’m sure you’ll find something you’re just dying to make.

Everyone who visits will know you’re wishing them a Happy Halloween with this cute pattern from Lucky Star Stitches. As Stefon would say, this pattern has EVERYTHING! Pumpkins, cats, bats, spiders, ghosts – all the greatest hits.

This slightly deranged Jack o’ Lantern trick-or-treater is the perfect mix of cute and creepy. The Elfin Forest has several primitive/vintage-style Halloween patterns in the shop, including the iconic black cat face.

True story: I’m kind of afraid of this pattern from CloudsFactory. It’s gorgeous and SO intricate that I’m not entirely sure that I’m up for the task. But it’s so cute!

This retro sign from Satsuma Street is TOO much fun! I actually made this one last year as a gift, and I have it on my project list to make a version for myself. Definitely one that could easily stay up all year round and could be personalized by switching in different colors for the orange.

Never forget to stay spooky! Red Bear Design makes a lot of very darling patterns, and though I haven’t stitched this one, I did make their “Best Witches” Halloween pattern several years ago. I like that the patterns include different colorways, and for the nervous beginner, most of the downloadable patterns are also available to purchse as kits.

I would definitely move into this darling little Haunted Mansion designed by Tiny Modernist. Or at least come in for a visit with that stylish vampire or have dinner with the skeletons.

Speaking of places I’d like to live… This cozy and colorful witch cottage pattern from The World in Stitches is absolutely darling. Look at all the little candies along the roof!

Samplers are obviously a classic part of cross stitch and embroidery, and this Halloween sampler from Stitchonomy is SO cute! The pattern includes an alphabet so you can update the date & title to whatever you like.

I hope some of these Halloween projects inspired you! What have you been stitching lately?

PS: Buyer Beware! When shopping for cross stitch patterns, I always look for an actual photo of the finished pattern – if the shop doesn’t have a finished example of that specific pattern, you at least want to see that they’ve actually made some of the patterns in the shop. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is…anyone can run an image through a transfer program (in fact, YOU can do that for free!), but it doesn’t mean it’ll turn out to be an attractive pattern. I’m very dubious of any shop that doesn’t have any examples of completed cross stitches in their listings.
