One of the most popular posts on my blog is the round-up of spooky DIYs I posted last summer right around this time because I just couldn’t wait for Halloween. That tells me there are a lot of ghouls after my own heart out here, so I’m jumping right back in with seven MORE easy Halloween but not Halloween DIY projects to help you get ready for the spooky season without going full Jack O’ Lantern just yet. (Though if you are full Jack O’ Lantern, SHINE ON YOU CRAZY PUMPKIN.)
Test Tube Tea Organizer by Making Magic
How incredibly darling is this? I’m not a huge tea drinker myself, but I could see this being the perfect easy DIY gift for your witchy friends. Not only is this project super cute and easy, I love that Making Magic includes some fun recipes for magical custom tea blends that you can use to fill up the tubes if you don’t already have your favorite loose-leaf (including sparkly hearts, and y’all best believe I would drink more tea if more of it came with sparkly hearts in it).
Pastel No-Carve Pumpkins by The Sweetest Digs
This style of product (white with a single spindly word) is soooo trendy, and literally every time I see a bowl/tray/mug/whatever in this style I think “this is cute, but I could so make it myself.” And voila, The Sweetest Digs comes to the rescue with a super easy tutorial with a pastel twist! She used fresh pumpkins for these but mentions in her post that she’d definitely recommend using fake ones so you can keep them year after year – and that works out perfectly for spooks ahead of schedule when the real pumpkins aren’t full grown yet! I’m not gonna lie, I would definitely love to make one of these that says “SPOOPY.”
DIY Ouija Board Wall by Manning Makes Things
OK so bats are my eternal spooky fave (I did get them tattooed on my leg after all), but ouija/spirit boards are a close second! Victorian spiritualism is a major aesthetic for me, and I absolutely want to turn an entire wall in my apartment into a giant ouija board. I’m obsessed with what a huge impact this makes when it’s actually relatively simple – the letters and all are cut out of posterboard! Manning made this as a photo backdrop for a Halloween party, but I think I know a few of you who would also keep this up all year long.
Mini Witch Hats by Oh Happy Day
If I had to name the one thing that absolutely everything in my life has been missing, it would have to be TINY WITCH HATS. Seriously. There are so many things in my apartment that could be vastly improved with a tiny witch hat. Best of all, these are just made out of cupcake liners! So easy! So inexpensive to play occult haberdasher for all of your figurines! (Oh Happy Day does also point out these can be used as cupcake/muffin toppers but…….figurines.)
Halloween Apothecary Labels by Lia Griffith
Cool Halloween labels are such a perfect part of the DIYers arsenal, and I’m in love with these cool apothecary-inspired labels. You can easily add them to colored bottles, as pictured, use them to re-label drinks at a party, add to ceramics or decorative mugs (obviously nothing you’d want to wash!), even stick them on a notebook. And not to drag anybody, but I think these free printable labels are a lot prettier and better designed than a lot of the apothecary-themed items I’ve seen in actual stores.
DIY Succulent Pumpkin Centerpiece by Sand & Sisal
This clean, white planter DIY is perfect for those of you that are a lil’ spooky but not quite ready to hop on the black and orange train yet. It’s such a fun way to cross over the late summer and early autumn #aesthetic. Sand & Sisal uses live succulents in her DIY and more power to her, but TBH I am a plant murderer and I would probably make these with some faux greenery. They’re a gorgeous centerpiece, as mentioned, or perfect for styling some shelves if you have a more modern, clean style going on.
DIY Floral Skull Ice Cubes by Me and Annabel Lee
This final DIY is ideal because you can use it any time of year, provided you’re GOTH AF but also soft. I’m super into ice cubes with stuff inside them, and making them skulls only makes it radder. Can you imagine a punch bowl at a Halloween party filled with these little guys? Now that’s some serious gothic romance aesthetic. But it’s also super badass to plop one into your glass of rosé that you’re drinking alone at home on a Tuesday night. Y’know…hypothetically…
And there we have it – seven MORE DIYs for spooky ghouls who just can’t wait for Halloween. Are you getting revved up for the Halloween season already? I feel like I’ve seen a lot more Halloween on my social media a lot earlier, but it’s also possible that I’m just following a lot more hardcore Halloween lovers than I used to. But after this sweaty summer, I wouldn’t be surprised if more people than usual are already yearning for crisp fall days, pumpkin spice, and some spooky scary skeletons.
