Okay, so this may seem like kind of an odd topic for me. What does a personal grocery shopping & delivery service have to do with retro fashion or vintage lifestyle? Well, I’ve always been passionate about self care in whatever form it takes, whether that’s treating yourself to a face mask, seeking professional mental health care, or doing some yoga. I wrote last week about having a Summer of Self Love, and for me, Instacart definitely fits in that category. The service just came to Milwaukee, and I jumped right on board. Now that I’ve ordered a few times, I feel ready to share my thoughts.
This summer will be the 50th anniversary of the “Summer of Love,” the iconic counterculture phenomenom that’s become the perhaps the greatest single symbol of the hippie movement. San Francisco and London (two of the centers for gathering flower children) have a variety of special celebrations planned, but I think that we can all commemorate the Summer of Love in our own way by dedicating ourselves to self love this summer. I was just talking to a friend about how the start of summer always feels the start of something new more than January ever does to me. So I’ve come up with a few ways to embrace self love all summer long.
Over the past few years, I’ve made it my mission to visit a tiki bar whenever I can while traveling. I’ve reviewed the bars I’ve explored both near and far, but there are still so many to see! My personal tiki bucket list is made up of a mix of classics and updated takes from modern-day tiki fiends. Are your favorites on my to-do list?
Space: the final frontier! I totally nerd out for NASA (even though I’m also sort of terrified of space???), but there are times that I’m a little disappointed that space didn’t end up being the groovy, bubble-helmeted, raygun-filled place that we used to imagine. But just because the reality of space exploration is still on the harder scientific size, that doesn’t mean we can’t live out our sci-fi vixen dreams! So come along with me as we venture into the stars and enjoy the aesthetic of the retro space babe.
Last month, I tried out a new subscription box just for pinup gals – Pinup in a Pack! The down & dirty details: $19.99 (shipped in the US) gets you a selection of 3-4 retro-inspired accessories delivered to your door each month. I’m notoriously picky about subscription services because, well…I’m just super picky in general. But I liked my April box and decided to stick around for another month. What showed up in the May box? Will I be keeping my subscription for another month? There’s only one way to find out…
It’s been a really long time since I shared a straight-up outfit of the day post! If you follow my Instagram, you’ve been seeing my outfits, but I don’t usually chat too much about the look itself (I’m much more into the sardonic quote + emoji caption…). I’ve been having a lot of fun putting together new looks this spring, but Wednesday was one of my very favorite outfits for a long time. And, based on the reaction from coworkers and event attendees, it was a big hit in general! How does a colorful pinup unicorn princess do “business professional”? FInd out after the jump!
